October 2014 will be remembered for many different reasons for each of us, but in Ardee it heralded the closure of 2 long established Business in the Town. Sean Kerr Providers and Joseph Woods Ltd.
Since 1982 Sean Kerr Providers started by the late Sean Kerr and his wife Mary helped toward the building, decorating and gardens of many of the homes in the town and surrounds and gave employment in times where there was little to be had over the 32 years of it’s existence. Contributing not just by selling goods and services but also supporting local groups and associations and sponsoring many events and indeed in the last number of years the Kerr Family opened their doors and welcomed Santa on his mission to visit many of the children in the area. It is with great sadness that Mary who at the ripe age of 93 saw the once thriving business she started with her husband close it’s doors for the last time on Monday October 20th having gone into receivership. We extend our thanks to Mary and her sons Eamonn and Niall and son in law Gerry and to the staff for having been part of the towns heritage for so long and for giving so much employment to many over those years and contributing to the towns economy.
1982 also saw the opening of Joseph Woods Ltd, started by the late Joe Woods and his wife Theresa catering for electrical goods and services and again contributing to the fabric of the town with employment, sponsorship and contracting services as well as the help with the Christmas lights over the years as well. On October 25th Theresa retired from the business and the landmark building on Irish Street closed it’s doors. To Theresa and the staff we are sorry to see you retire but wish you and the family a heartfelt congratulations and thanks for over 30 years of service to the town, for contributing to our small economy and giving employment over all those years as well
